AdvantageSix has developed IPKam, a video camera gadget that claims to be compatible with all modern RISC OS computers. The device works by streaming video data from a solid state camera to the host computer via an ethernet network connection, allowing users to view the captured video in real-time on the desktop using Ad6's IPVideo software.
According to STD, the desktop RISC OS side of Ad6, IPVideo is "a product that Advantage Six have been developing for other uses", notably industrial and control applications involving the A9 and Embedded RISC OS. Each camera also reportedly supports multiple computers connecting to it across a network.
Depending on network and other processor load conditions, a StrongARM RiscPC can display video from IPKam at 12 frames per second, while the A6 and A9 can go up to 25 frames per second, says STD, with a maximum resolution of 640x480. The A6 is STD's VirtualRiscPC based Windows PC product, and the A9 is their secret ARM9 powered range of embedded computers.
The IPKam is described as being a "single compact unit", that uses wide depth of field optics with manual focus, and includes a tripod as well as other useful bits and pieces.

From past experience, the published date is not always the actual date it appeared on the site, but according to some sources, it did appear here whilst still embargoed. I think Drobe were trying to remove the uncertainty about the article. |
