Show me the magic

Photodesk logoCJE Micros, publisher of graphics package Photodesk, has announced that Niklaus Weiss is to be the software's new maintainer. Niklaus is otherwise known for his work on DeskDebug, a multitasking programming tool, which will be launched at this weekend's Wakefield show.

"Niklaus only has a very limited amount of free time to devote to Photodesk so his work will be limited to bug fixing and minor changes. He will need to familiarise himself with the code before starting on any changes, so no date is being given for updates," said Chris Evans, of CJE.

Bug reports and feature requests should be aimed at the Photodesk mailing list. CJE took over Photodesk in June 2004, after David Ruck converted the software to be 32bit compatible.

This is very good news indeed - even small improvements can make a big difference to this powerful - but sometimes frustrating - application.

I wish Niklaus all the best ... and thus us too :-)

OK, I'm being a little off topic here but..

How do you join the Photodesk mailing list? When I click on the link Smartgroups asks me to login. Fine. But then there seems to be no way of joining the group unless one knows the position within the group listings

e.g. Top / English / Computers & Internet / Software / Specific Programs

Spriteman:

Yeah, the whole "subscribing to PhotoDesk mailing list" thing confused me too. I spent ages apparently going around in circles on the smartgroups site. It turns out you just can't access private smartgroups until you're already on the list.

So, to subscribe you have to send an email. There's full instructions here [link] .

Good luck to Nik with this. After working miracles writing a multi tasking debugger, and being forced to learn about C from the debugging info upwards, he can now return to his love of assembler - and there is a lot of assembler to love in Photodesk - thousands of source files as almost everything is a seperate plug-in code fragment.

I hope after Nik has familiarised himself and done some essential maintainance. some of the first progress will creating an SDK of the plug-in interface so other people can release additions to the program - budding Martin Wurthners of the bitmap world. Its will certainly be less complex to write plugins than the Artworks SDK once its documented.
