Expo 2005 rolls on without MicroDigital

Previous show sponsor has no new wares to shift allegedly
Expo show newsDutch dealer Desk, aka MicroDigital Europe, will be notably absent from this weekend's RISC OS Expo 2005.

"We feel very sorry about that, because for a number of years Desk has supported the show as the premier sponsor," said show organiser Aad Bezemer. He then claimed the reason Desk are not attending "is because of a lack of news and new products they can show and sell."

With one exception, the Big Ben Club Expo shows are a safe haven for the MicroDigital group, who usually receive a warmer welcome from the continent than the UK. An eagle eyed user on the European mainland pointed out to us that Desk's non-attendance "is significant as there will be no official MicroDigital representation at this year's Expo, for the first time in several years."

However, Aad was at pains to stress that the Expo 2005 "is going to be an excellent show again for RISC OS enthusiasts on the mainland.

"The A9Home will be presented by CJE's Chris Evans. Furthermore new at this year's show are Steffen Huber and Neil Spellings. Also those present again are well-known names from Britain like Paul Beverley, Mike Glover, Jack Lillingston, Andrew Rawnsley, Paul Middleton and, for his last show, Peter Naulls and the AAUG will be represented by Dan Shimmin."

Aad continued: "From the mainland Martin Wuerthner and Paul Reuvers (XAT) will be there and of course John Tytgat and his Belgian friends. Furthermore Henk Huinen will be there showing his skills using Artworks and ready for answering questions about this wonderful piece of software."

According to the show organisers, talks will be given by CJE, RISCOS Ltd., Castle and Archive magazine's Paul Beverley. Earlier this week Desk informed its customers that it will not be present at the show this year and declined to comment further.

Everybody on DESK's mailing list received an email stating they are unfortunately unable to attend due to a lack of progress on the Omega (Xscale) and of available software to offer... This supposedly is the first time in 13 years they will not be present, which is a pity.

I am looking forward to being there, because there's always plenty to chat about and new (and unknown) stuff to see. I only hope Peter Naulls would be willing to grace the european visitors with one final talk/presentation.

Is anyone still actually taking Microdigital seriously? It seems to me that the only serious computer developers are Castle Technology and Advantage6.

I have arranged with the organsiers to give a brief talk on my stand early in the show. It will not be full length talk as per Wakefield, or like some of the other exhibitors are giving.

I hope Microdigital pulls itself together, I for one would love to see a fully featured Omega running with a 1ghz X-Scale, 4gb RAM, hardware JPEG and MPEG acceleration etc. however unlikely, come on Microdigital sort-it-out ;-)

Wah, there's a train strike today in The Netherlands for anyone planning on travelleing there this evening. I'm understand that busses are still running.

For infomation the strike ends at 2300, the first trains scheduled will be the night trains between the 4 big cities namely;
01.04 from Utrecht CS to Rotterdam CS
00.43 from Amsterdam CS to Rotterdam CS
00.59 from Rotterdam CS to Utrecht CS

You should be able to get information at Schiphol, and it is possible to travel using buses to Utrecht/Nieuwegein. Good luck.

Theres more chance that I'll get out of the shower and find the last 8 years have been nothing but a bad dream. Acorn will be alive and well, just having released the Pheobe MkIV featuring quad core 4GHz HyperARMs made by DEC (who recently bought up ailing printer maker HP with the proceeds from sucessful litagation against Intel, who under the terms of the settlement have announced their withdrawal from the processor market to concentrate on making WiFi chipsets, and their testimony against Microsoft in the DOJ antitrust hearings, resulted in a 30 year sentance of hard labour for Bill Gates).

Much easier and far cheaper to just shoot him, rather than put him up and feed him whilst making him do hard labour.

According to Acorn the Phoebe Mk 1 was to be their last desktop machine. This reality is the good news ...

... but then again - if all the rest of that could happen! ;-)

In reply to mrchocky:

The Dutch NS (Railway) is absolutely, terribly, incredibly and utterly disorganised since a couple of years. The trains do seem to depart sometimes and if you're really lucky, you might actually arrive at the right destination + on time. I'd suggest taking a buss and put up with a little less comfort, but a better chance of actually arriving at the Expo on time. Please look out for idiots, though.

In reply to sa110:

Shoot him? No... he must be allowed to learn the error of his ways while scratching chewing gum of the floors and shining shoes of open source advocates.
