RiscCAD version 10 ready for SE show

2D design app for 30 quid

Version 10 of design package RiscCAD is ready to ship, says author David Buck. The latest release of the 2D CAD software will include support for anti-aliased fonts and bezier curves, improved compatibility with DXF files, and a new pattern fill tool.

David commented, "Over the last few months I have been trying to gauge what users want from a CAD system. Some users do not require many of the construction tools RiscCAD is equiped with, but they do want is similar functionality to existing programs, whether it be Draw or some other design or CAD program they are using. As RISC OS is the sum of its parts, communicating with other RISC OS programs is essential."

He added: "Whilst it was important to ensure RiscCAD operated better with the RISC OS world, one is always painfully aware that CAD systems must be able to integrate with the PC world. PC CAD users need high quality DXF transfer between RiscCAD and the PC system. Improvements to RiscDXF mean that this is now possible. RiscDXF can load all variants of DXF file from early versions of AutoCAD up to the very latest DXF files."

The software will go on sale first at the South East RISC OS show on October 22nd. Developer and engineer, Dave Buck relaunched his software in January, earlier this year.

harmsy (+1.0) 15/10/05 11:15AM	It's great to see such developments and excellent to have competition in the marketplace. Does anyone know how RiscCAD compares with ProCAD+ ? Perhaps someone could draw up a list of things each do and don't do? [comment restored after accident - chris]
dgs (+1.1) 13/10/05 6:49PM	*In reply to harmsy:* Such a list would probably need to be drawn up by someone who knows both packages really well, and most businesses that use RiscCAD or ProCAD seem to be firmly committed to either one or the other. Peter McCafferty, who is one of the beta testers of RiscCAD version 10, and uses it for architectural designs, will be giving a detailed presentation on the new features (and the software in general) at the RISC OS User Group of London this coming Monday, 17th October. demondb 14/10/05 10:14PM	Agreed. There are differences between the two programs, and it would probably come down to personnel taste, and possibly the exact requirements of the app... ...and cost of course.
