Web editing apps updated By Chris Williams. Published: 11th May 2006, 23:58:54 | Permalink | PrintableWeb Wonder and HTMLEdit Studio step up  RISC OS web designers were treated to a double whammy this month as new versions of Web Wonder and HTML Edit 6 were unleashed. Dubbed 'Navigator', David Snell's latest Web Wonder comes as a free upgrade, and includes updates to the user interface and the design functions.
Of all the new features, David said he particularly liked the editing of navigation buttons and contact pages, and the addition of a search engine.
On the navigation editing feature, which includes rollover image support, David said: "Many links are already deduced and the few you need to provide are simply dragged and dropped. The ability to upgrade old files all over the website from simple buttons to rollovers just by specifying the new second button image in the definition box and calling a function is a terrific time saver."
He added: "The new search engine can perform a search over all or part of the site and uses a 'throw-back' type of approach to access actual pages that can then be modified using find and replace. It deals with things like ampersand so if you were to search for 'This & That' it will find it although the HTML contains 'This & That'. It will also permit a search in the page titles."
Web Wonder (pictured right) is a WYSIWYG HTML editor for webpage designers. David commented that it's unlikely Web Wonder 1.04 will be released until early 2007.
He said: "This next version will be able to download as well as upload. It will also be able to compare the remote and local copies of the website and provide a means of deleting files and directories that are on the remote site but not on the local one. Other subtle differences are planned and if anyone has any particular requests for new features I'll see what I can do, but I make no promises."
Meanwhile, R-Comp's HTMLEdit Studio package has reached version 6, and will be shown off at this weekend's Wakefield show. The web authoring application is bundled with the page developer's version of WebsterXL, a Textures application, WebSpell, SiteMaster, WebUpload, and the Web Designer's Toolkit. The latter four stand at version 3.
R-Comp's Andrew Rawnsley said: "Each program has been updated with new features to the Studio including XHTML support, cascading style sheet handling, javascript files, improved image conversion, better handling of file extensions, HTML 4.01 as the baseline standard, and lots more. Interfaces have been revamped, upgraded and made more intuitive."
