Ashlee Simpson knows the drillUsers voting on future features for Techwriter and Easiwriter will have until midnight tonight to send in their ballots. Earlier this month, programmer Martin Wuerthner opened the floor to punters to allow them to decide on the direction of development. Ballot papers must be emailed to Icon Technology in a special format to count.

Techwriter publisher Mike Glover said: "We will be closing the voting for new features tonight at midnight - November, 20 2006. I look forward to seeing lots more votes."

As well as posing a list of potential features for users to consider, Martin also called for punters to suggest their own major bullet point additions for the software. However, he ruled out PDF import, support for Microsoft Office's new 'Open XML' format, and multi-stage undo.

The proposed features include improved headers and footers, the ability to watermark documents, a style selector dialogue box, automatically updating page and heading references, auto-numbering of figures, tables and equations, OpenOffice-compatible file export, Microsoft Word 2000 export, improved HTML export, a tree view of a document's structure, and the ability to mix landscape and portrait page layouts.

Is this Drobes entry so the most tenous connection between a picture and a story???

Or maybe the teeshirt was actually designed in TechWriter and output as PDF via RiScript?

In reply to markee174:

Why use RiScript for that? Easi/TechWriter has PDF export built in: it's as easy as 'Save as PDF'. With the latest versions of Easi/TechWriter you can even password protect PDF files and set the access rights.

Now get voting everyone: I suggest prioritising A (improved headers and footers), J (control over widows and orphans) and O (Grep-like search and replace with proper wildcards). Vote for those and I promise not to increase taxation ;-)

Well I voted for improved headers and footers plus widow/orphan control but not the searching. I feel that EW/TW is a word processor rather than an editor or page layout program so these (especially widow/orphan) are essential.

I also would like to see the style editor and mixed page aspects but that's just my view. Interworking with what must be the world's worst Word-processor seems important because so many people use it, I suppose they've never seen anything better.

Anyway, a mix of new features and some more bug-fixes will work for me!

Oh, and I liked the photo. Nothing wrong with a bit of humour now and again.

I voted, I voted, I voted, me, me, I voted, ... ;-)

There's nothing wrong with Drobe being the RISC OS red top, brightens up my day.

The proposed Easi/TechWriter feature list certainly has some very useful options, a couple definitely in the 20 quid bracket, and most of the rest worth a tenner of my money. If that translates in to actual upgrades, hopefully it should ensure development continues for some time.
