| South West show set for this Saturday |

 The RISC OS South West show is set to take place this coming Saturday at its usual venue - the Webbington Hotel, North Somerset. The show is expected to open at 10am and finish by 4.30pm.
The exhibitors signed up so far include: AAUG, APDL, Archive, CJE Micros, David Snell, Fortran Friends, Icon Technology, Castle (aka Iyonix Ltd), John Norris, MW Software, Orpheus Internet Services, Qercus, R-Comp, RISCOS Ltd, RISC OS Now, The RiscPkg Project, Serious Statistical Software, Spellings Services, and the ARM Club.
The event is also set to feature a games area and charity stand. RISCOS Ltd and Castle (aka Iyonix Ltd) will be holding presentations, along with one as yet unnamed organisation.

I do hope that WROCC make a decision soon. I'm trying to plan future travel and it would be nice to combine dates with other travel plans 'up North'. |

Hope they have a great show - but too far for me to travel.
As to Wakefield - I've gone to nearly everyone and it's always been worth the trip.
Please try to put on at least a one day show - after all there's unsually only some little football game on that weekend.

Please only put on a 1 day Wakefield show, as having two half empty days is far worse for the perception of visitors than one well attended day, even if it means a few people can't make the date. It also substantially reduces the overhead for exhibitors with one nights less accommodation to pay for.
As for the South West, its always a nice event and well worth the effort if you are in the region. See you there next week. |

One day shows are fine for the people that can get to them, quite a few people have to work on Saturdays. |

It doesn't have to be a Saturday. Perhaps Drobe could do a poll to see which day would get more attendance. |

This is just my personal opinion, but all of the feedback I've ever seen is that RISC OS users are better able to attend all day events if they're held on Saturdays, and better able to attend evening events if they're held Monday to Thursday (or even Monday to Wednesday).
User group events held at weekends have generally seen bad or very bad turnouts, purely because most people will only give up a day of their weekend if there's a show on.
I realise that this is very unfair to people who can't get to shows on Saturdays, but sadly it seems unlikely that there is any sensible alternative.
On a side note, yes the Wakefield show is very important nationwide - ROUGOL currently has two speakers who can't confirm their appearance until the Wakefield date is confirmed. One can only appear if the Wakefield show is on 19th May, one can only appear if the Wakefield show is not on 19th May. Confused? You will be.

I suspect if the show was during the week then more people wouldn't be able to attend than if it was on a sat - including a lot of the people who give up their free time to run the show.
Personally I wish Wakefield was two days - but realise for many this is just not financially viable. |

A one-day Saturday Wakefield gets my vote. The one day versions Wakefields are usually as rewarding as the two-day versions, without the physical effects of the extra day. Being able to unpack/chill out on Sunday is massively preferable - the Monday after a show is always frantic as any post-show support/email all hits at once. Given that the week before a show is usually a move-heaven-and-earth type struggle to get stuff ready, having one day off over the weekend is a real blessing. |

Sorry about delay in announcing what is happening but you can expect to hear something this week officially from me. There have been some major headaches this time and things have only really started to move again since the weekend. Drobe will have the formal announement ASAP. I can say this is make or break year - you will hear more soon. |
