ROOL rewards coders with freebies Published: 28th Jun 2007, 16:52:13 | Permalink | PrintableWill code for mouse mats  RISC OS Open are hoping to entice coders into contributing to the RISC OS sources - by bribing them with mouse mats and coasters. The ROOL team have promised to offer a free mouse mat and double matching coaster set to the first one hundred people who submit useful changes to the shared source RISC OS 5.
The mat and coaster sets normally retail at about six quid, and RISC OS Open will judge whether a contribution is 'useful' or not - spelling and grammar changes are ruled out, for instance. Code submissions should be emailed to code (at) riscosopen (dot) org. To give developers a sense of direction, ROOL have published a few 'starter jobs' on their bug tracker under 'New features for
RISC OS' milestone. Punters have been encouraged to post their own tickets for things they would like to see fixed or improved in the released components.
ROOL's Steve Revill added: "We want to encourage people to get in there and make improvements or fix bugs - one such approach would be to have people adopt a component.
"We'd then give them direct read and write access to the component in our cvs repository so they can develop it. Another thing we're looking for is for people to help us prioritise what sources we release next."
