Christmas 2007 show announced

Jingle bells, jingle bells

On what must be the hottest day of the year at Drobe towers, The ARM Club and the Midland User Group have announced details of this year's Christmas 2007 RISC OS show. The two groups have clubbed together to organise the event to be held on Saturday December 1 in Warwickshire.

Dealers CJE Micros and APDL, and developers RISCOS Ltd, have confirmed they will be exhibiting. Other companies are being sought to fill the stands and further updates are expected from the show committee. The event is being hosted at the swanky Heritage Motor Centre, pictured.

A organiser told Drobe: "Following on from last year's successful resurrection of the Midlands show, the ARM Club and MUG have this year joined forces again to organise this popular pre-Christmas event.

"This year the show is at a new premier class venue the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon which is just 2 minutes from Junction 12 of the M40 motorway."

The show will open from 10.30am to 4pm. Entry is four quid for adults, three quid for ARM Club and MUG members, and under-12s go free.

This is the ex-Rover Cars design centre and associated museum. In fact, I fancy Land Rover's technical centre might still be there. Good museum for petrol-heads and others, concentrating on British cars, so something else good to do on the day (if you can drag yourself away from the RO crowd).

I've not been to an event there but it should be an excellent venue. About 5 minutes from the M40 junction so good communications too.

Well that was one of the reaons for choosing the venue. To make the day better still the show committee have secured a 10% discount on the admission price to the centre on the day for those visiting the RISC OS Show.

Just remember to use the 10% saving towards some RISC OS goodies though.

Forget to add , why not look at the positive part.

You save 10% on the entry to the Centre and save on the journey costs by having not having to do two seperate journeys to the RISC OS Show and another to visit the Centre.

But hey this is RISC OS land and postive thoughts are banned.

According to the website, there's a regular bus service which stops at the centre. Also, if you're so close, why not enquire about a car share, or consider a taxi (if you're very close)? The show's only just been announced - the organisers may be able to help with transport options if you ask them.

So many options. So much negativity.

Stops in the centre of the motor centre you mean? Looking at the 77 timetable it seems it goes from Leamington once every hour so it's a possibility yes.

Local bus between Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa runs to the centre. So if you can get to either Stratford or Leamington stations then it just a bus ride away.

We'll look at other options as well over the coming period and perhaps see about putting some details on the site of people who need transport to encourage car sharing etc.

In reply to bluenose: It is by no means a negative comment about the show. I am all for it. I am simply pointing out that you comment about the 10% saving on the venue admission price, is not actually going to give you a great deal extra to spend at the show itself.

Note that he said "towards", meaning the 10% saving can be put 'towards' a purchase and not for the whole purchase.

Best solution would be to go direct to the show, without stopping off at the museum. Then the whole entrance fee can be put towards a RISC OS purchase. 10% discount become irrelevant then.

Ah, this is great, just down the road. I should be able to make it this year, this is nearly as accessible from the East Midlands as the Motorcycle Museum was. I've got no excuse not to be there! I shall probably use the unsignposted back way to the M40 junction from Rugby, which involves a few country roads but will be easier than M42/M40 or getting on the M40 from the A46 south of Coventry. If anyone else is interested in that route, I can provide directions!

Pogo stick or space hopper is hard work. I will be taking a boat to the edge of Gaydon village and then walking up the hill.

Here is a link to some arial views of the Heritage Centre taken from a helicoptor a few weeks ago. The route from the motorway can be seen clearly. [link]
