Free update is Christmas present for punters
RiScript 5 logoA free update to PDF authoring package RiScript was released in time for Christmas this year. Version 5.04 is compatible with RISC OS 6 and can save out files in CMYK colour, which is useful for professional printing.

It can display and print in RGB colour and greyscale, export to PDF in RGB, CMYK and greyscale colour, export to drawfile format in RGB and greyscale colour, and supports PostScript 3 masked images. The new release can also embed fonts in documents and can export documents in landscape format.

The software's developers, Jeroen Medema and Roeland van den Bos, said in a statement this week: "We are pleased to announce the availability of RiScript 5.04 as a free update for RiScript 5 users.

"This version is RISC OS 6 compatible and offers a number of enhancements over the previous release. RiScript 5.04 goes a step further in colour management. You can now choose the output colour space, so you can generate PDF files with CMYK colours."

Good news and thanks.
Pity the issue with PDF like this one http://www.apassionata.de/NL02-06.pdf where RiScript shows crap instead of text (the app !PDF shows the correct text) has not been resolved.

In reply to hzn:

Have you contacted the developers and gave them and example, like you have above?

I'm glad to see the RiScript developers are continuing to work on and improve the product, as I still use my RISC OS machine for graphic design, layout and (where possible) pdf creation for print; the RO GUI, plus Artworks, Ovation Pro and Photodesk, is still more pleasant and easy to use than Windows, I find. Furthermore, the upgrade (to users of v5.00 anyway) is free. So well done Messrs Medema and v.d.Bos!

Certainly, first time quite a while ago already and again after getting this upgrade.

looking forward to getting mine. Unfortunately my invitation has gone to an email address that no longer works. I signed in and updated my profile and have written via the contact page requesting a download password. I hope they are checking emails over the new year period.

It'd be interesting to have more info about CMYK handling - given how lacking this is in RISC OS, Draw files and the printer drivers don't support it, what can one do? However RiScript might be a useful CMYK component in the future e.g. when Martin Wuerthner gets his new PostScript printer driver working.

In reply to hzn:
It might be worth continually trying, because I think their email is somewhat unreliable (with the last version they picked up on a problem I'd encountered from a Usenet post, and got it fixed pretty quickly, but I didn't hear a reply from an email in response to the test version they sent me).

In reply to SimonC:

I vaguely remember that I got a reply to this problem from them once stating that it is not an easy one to fix. But thanks for the suggestion - I will resend my mail the odd time asking for a reply until I have a response to be sure the email got someplace where it was read by the developers.

I just got a reply from the developers:
They are aware of the problem and it is high on the list. Not an easy one to implement. Good news!
