NetFetch, Messenger Pro and DataPower updates released
R-Comp logoRISC OS software publishing house R-Comp have managed to squeeze out updates to three of their products in time for tomorrow's South West 2008 show. NetFetch 3, Messenger Pro 5 and DataPower 3 have been improved and registered users are set to receive the latest versions for free in an email soon. Everyone else can pick up the latest copies at the show.

In an announcement, R-Comp staff said: "We are pleased to announce that new versions of three popular R-Comp products will be debuting at the South West show this weekend. And, what's more, they will all be free - well, to appropriate existing users, anyway."

In brief: according to R-Comp, NetFetch 3.15 includes a new version of Hermes with improvements to the anti-spam filtering and whitelist handling, the ability to view mail on a server and other features and bug fixes.

Messenger Pro 5.12 includes "major improvements" for users of MPro Server edition, which is said to have been "completely updated to improve both speed and compatibility" to work faster and be more compatible with other computer platforms. The non-server-edition version has a number of changes to the way email addresses and names are shown in line with user feedback, better handling of the foreign-characters in spam messages and other bug fixes.

Finally, DataPower 3.05 is said to be more compatible with databases created with older versions of the software, and provides an improved user interface for controlling some of the new features, such as the spell checker.

I look forward to receiving MPro and Netfetch upgrades in the post. Another good example of RComp's comittment to developing their core apps.

Excellent news and as ever RComp can be relied upon to deliver wothwhile updates to its customers and the RISCOS community. I look forward to my updates to Datapower3, Netfetch and MessengerPro.

It was good to see the RComp team, as ever, at the SW Show and to talk to Andrew about the RISCBook mini aka Asus EeePC which I believe could be a great seller for them if they could supplement the WinXP/VirtualRiscPC offering with the a Eeepc native Linux version. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the WinXP/VirtualAcorn offering just that a native Linux one might be cheaper and thus attract more people or people who do not wish to have another Windows machine.

Still at the end of the day RComp have at least attenpted something to bring another RISCOS type offering to the table and I think they should be applauded for that alone.

NetFetch 3.15 shipped out on Monday. Mpro and DP3 updates will be later once I've recovered from post-show illness.
