Show your love for RISC OS on Facebook

Let everyone know what's on your desktop
Screenshot of FacebookWeb-savvy, all-round cool catz of the internet who know their FaceSpaces from their MyBooks, and use RISC OS, can let everyone know they're fans of the world's greatest operating system by signing up to a new, blue web page near you.

Facebook users now can become fans of RISC OS by joining a new page created by user Mike Carter, pictured, and hopefully spread some of that ROS joy to the rest of the interweb.

Mike, who previously set up a separate RISC OS user group on Facebook, said today: "Show your support by going to the [Facebook] RISC OS page and becoming a fan. You can also use the page to upload videos, photos, and screenshots, and any other RISC OS related stuff you would like to show off."

Indeed, the page already includes some interesting looking screenshots and videos of RISC OS in action. Facebook is a social networking site used by millions of people around the world, and is useful for sharing pictures, gossip, messages and other stuff to kill some spare time.

• This oily Drobe hack is reminded of the time he was at an Acorn World show when Acorn Clan chiefs were trying to get as many punters online and "make as much noise" as possible to attract worldwide attention to the tiny, niche platform. Even to this day, efforts to get ROS noticed on the sliproads of the information superhighway can't do any harm at all.

What timing - I set myself up on Facebook only this week. And unlike MySpace it actually works on RISC OS (although it is very slow).

I'll subscribe over the weekend.

Give all my personal details to Facebook? I don't think so, not even for RISC OS!

I second druck - too often such sites try to make use of your data.

This can be read on the entry page of facebook: "Facebook offers more integrated advertising opportunities to engage your target audience. We look forward to working with you and seeing your marketing initiatives come to life on Facebook."

I spy a couple of integrated ads directly below this text entry box. Going to stop using Drobe now?

You must be using a browser without ad blocking capabilities.

No, I just don't obsess about ads, so don't bother to block them. If I did, I could block them on Facebook too. There are many reasons not to use Facebook (privacy issues, waste of time, nothing on it seems to work properly), but advertising don't seem to me to be a good one.
