Today I was looking for a file buried deep inside my, usually well organised, hard disc. Before I found it, I discovered a large number of files that I had forgotten were still on the disc, files I could have done with last week while trying to finish off an application of mine.
Steve Fryatt has stepped in to bridge the gap between you and mislaid files by releasing a new freeware application, Locate.
"Locate is a Desktop utility to search for files, directories and applications meeting a given set of criteria", announced Steve in his usenet posting. "It will match filenames using wildcards and will also compare size, age and type; the idea is based very loosely on the 'Find files' utility in Windows and the equivalent on the Mac."
"..Locate was an app that had been sitting in a very unfinished form on my hard disc for a couple of years. I decided to dust it off, pretty much re-write it all and release it after something I saw on one of the Acorn newsgroups earlier this year", comments Steve in an email to drobe.
Steve welcomes all your feedback and comments, he has a lot planned for Locate and hopes users will suggest improvements and features.
