Former Iota software taken over by R-Comp
R-Comp logoAs reported in our coverage this month of R-Comp taking over old Iota software, Complete Animator and Touch Type will be on sale from this weekend. The two applications have been resurrected, dusted down, given a lick of paint and put back on the market in time for the Wakefield 2008 show this Saturday.

The two programs were initially developed for the RISC OS platform before Iota jumped ship to the Microsoft Windows world. The firm ceased trading in January this year and R-Comp have been able to take over development and resale of the ROS and PC versions of the applications.

Typing tuition software Touch Type version 2 is no longer saddled with copy protection, is 32bit compatible, has a tidier user interface, can use eSpeak to read out letters and has a new manual and set of typing exercises - according to R-Comp today. It costs 19 quid.

Meanwhile, animation package Complete Animator is now free of its copy protection, is mostly 32bit-safe but not fully Iyonix compatible, can create animated GIFs and has a new manual - says R-Comp. Complete Animator allows punters to pull bitmap and vector graphics onto cells to create, as you'd expect from the name, animations. Sounds can also be attached to films. It costs 30 quid.

• Finally, R-Comp are mulling over releasing a data backup tool called SafeStore. It is said to be able to backup files to second hard discs, network-attached drives and removable storage such as Flash cards and USB pens. According to R-Comp, it can track changes to files marked by the user as important and perform automatic backups behind-the-scenes, if the user so desires.

R-Comp's Andrew Rawnsley said: "Unfortunately the release version of SafeStore isn't quite ready for the show but you'll be able to come and see it on the R-Comp stand."

"I need a break"

I haven't noticed anyone giving you a break on Drobe or the newsgroups recently ;-)

Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you for all your efforts. They're much appreciated. I plan to buy both these products. Is there an upgrade price for existing owners of TouchType and Complete Animator, please?

you obviously started too early with your work, being able to finish it between Thursday and Friday instead of the more usual Friday and Saturday ;-)

Hehe hubersn - if its any consolation, I'm trying to build 2 laptops for show stock (regular and 12inch) and finish a RiscBook Mini (eee) for a customer, as well as do CD duplication etc.

Upgrades for existing users - we don't actually have any records, so I really don't know what to say about upgraded for Iota users. We've slashed the prices, however, so I really feel that's as far as one can realistically go. If we were still charging 99ukp for Animator, it'd be a bit different of course! HOWEVER, if you're buying both and/or a copy of PDFmaker etc, then I'm sure there's some sort of "Stewy Discount" that can be worked out :)

Thanks, that's appreciated. Wishing you MUCH success at Wakefield. You've got some great new products: updates from RComp always put a smile on my face -- and a smallish hole in my bank balance ;-)
