RISC OS News Article
Add text to your Drawfiles with DrawText

!Draw, the vector graphics application included in every copy of RISC OS, is great at lines, shapes and colours but not so hot on text. Plain text files dragged onto drawings appear as the same font, size and format unless you take the trouble of writing in the format codes to let Draw know what to do with your text. Text files with these additional layout tags are known as Text Areas and are for beginners a tad tricky to get the hang of, especially of you are used to fancy effect menus offered by the likes of OvationPro.
Stephen Murphy has recently updated DrawText, a freeware Draw text generator. According to his announcement, new features in this release include:

  • Fix for a bug in foreground and background colouring
  • Change to the numbers assigned to colours to match the old RISC OS 16 colour palette
  • New manual, available in several handy formats

"It was my first ever programming project on RISC OS just after I bought WimpBASIC", explains Stephen in an email to drobe. "It was designed to fulfil a need that I had for producing Draw text areas quickly. Since I found it useful I thought others would too, so I relased it to the public.."
