Omicron Solutions' Ocelot: A hardware exclusive on the newest RISC OS machine

Early today, drobe.co.uk was contacted by a regular drobe visitor with some very exciting news. If you thought only the top RISC OS hardware developers could keep a lid on their developments then you are fortunately mistaken. Our reader, who wished to unfortunately remain anonymous, stumbled across a RISC OS hardware developer site that is yet to go live.

The site belongs to Omicron Solutions, of Omicron Research located in a comercial estate on the Isle of Man. They are a long-running, low-profile company that believes RISC architecture is the way forward in the ever growing world of computering. Their site details the imminent launch of their Ocelot portable computer although the site appears to be in a state ready to be announced. The portable will initially employ RISC OS and use dual 1GHz XScale processors in a bid to be the first multiprocessor portable. The full specification, as well as development and company details are on the website. Omicron are also finialising Cougar, a desktop version of the Ocelot -details of which are also on the discovered site.

drobe.co.uk contacted Omicron Solutions regarding our discovery to which their reply neither confirmed nor denied the Ocelot portable. Even though they refrained from being quoted, they were prepared to state that they are confident the portable will be ready by this summer but they wished to communicate with the media officially when the time comes. It may not surprise you to know that the link to the site is given below, which this editor (speaking personally) suggests you visit before we are forced to remove the link.

With only months to go to the Wakefield show, could we have another new high quality RISC OS machine on our hands. It seems we are spoilt for choice.
