Where oh where did my portable go? By Chris Williams. Published: 12th May 2002, 19:26:33 | Permalink | PrintableOh where, oh where could it be? One of the major hardware releases expected from 2001/2002 has been delayed again for 6-8 weeks. For those of you waiting on the Riscstation Portable, excuses can be found here.
Despite the lateness, Riscstation can reveal the following features have been achieved:
- Digital VIDC output to drive the LCD panel directly.
- New 10/100Mb ethernet controller and driver software
- USB interface and driver software
- PCMCIA interface and driver software
- Power supply and battery management

New driver to read and write large USB storage devices Jeff Doggett has ported a library to create a RISC OS module that can access USB-based FAT32 storage devices greater than 2GB in size, such as memory sticks and Flash cards. Jeff said: "This is just a filing system module - there is no desktop front-end or anything user friendly. It's version 0.01 which should give you some idea that you should try it first on a test drive before letting it loose on anything valuable."
