Where oh where did my portable go?

By Chris Williams. Published: 12th May 2002, 19:26:33.

Oh where, oh where could it be?

One of the major hardware releases expected from 2001/2002 has been delayed again for 6-8 weeks. For those of you waiting on the Riscstation Portable, excuses can be found here.

Despite the lateness, Riscstation can reveal the following features have been achieved:

  • Digital VIDC output to drive the LCD panel directly.
  • New 10/100Mb ethernet controller and driver software
  • USB interface and driver software
  • PCMCIA interface and driver software
  • Power supply and battery management

True. selling a new computer with that speed of processor is outrageous, even if it can do FP -- jymbob. (llama)

"Kewl PCMCIA driver" that's like saying "Kewl, A road!" ... no damn use without something to use with it!

It is a same they'll miss Wakefield, but it isn't entirely their fault. They have give a good reason and are making the mark 1 product better in the mean time.

Ian, a PCMCIA driver is a good thing because it makes creation of drivers for specific cards easier. Without it everyone who wants to write a driver for a card would need to write the PCMCIA driver as well as the card driver.

"Kewl PCMCIA driver" that's like saying "Kewl, A road!" ... sure it's better than having to build the road, then the car but still no damn use without the car! -- Spriteman.
