Cybervillage finally loses it

By Chris Williams. Published: 8th Oct 2002, 15:25:07.

Loses the /acorn/ that is

The Acorn Cybervillage is an old timer when one thinks about the history of the RISC OS portals. Launched by Stuart Halliday of Quantum Software in late 1995, a good four years before drobe.co.uk was merely a few tags on a mocked up html page, the Acorn Cybervillage has witnessed all of the greatest moments in the RISC OS world towards the end of the Acorn era. According to the Acorn Cybervillage, they are a "central source of the latest news, rumours, free software and information on over 600 companies in the RISC OS community".

Much respect then. Which is why we were surprised when just the other day we read this, regarding Stuart's recent announcement that he wants people to link to http://acorn.cybervillage.co.uk/ and not http://www.cybervillage.co.uk/acorn/

"Well now is the time to search through your hyperlinks and actually change them to the correct one", exclaims Stuart, "because from the 15th October I'm going to place an automatic redirection on the old url to point to some pornographic web site."

Filth! Over a year ago, Stuart switched to using the new acorn.cybervillage.co.uk URL and asked all webmasters to stop using the old /acorn/ one. That's right, don't use this url. We say again, don't use this url or Stuart will redirect you to a world of unrestricted evilness. Get correcting those URLs!

Acorn Cybervillage or maybe you might prefer this one anyway. Shame on you.

Maybe if the links on the site were correct they might get some hits. :)

Hey, the links on my site were correct at the time of Press. But regarding my wee PR, if I just asked people to adjust links not a lot would have happened. So I spiced up the announcement a notch to get people talking. :-)

So no doubt tomorrow I'll get a few hundred hits on the old url by sad people expecting to see something.

Well, I've got some decent porn links if anyone wants them.

Oh wait; you're all sad geeks as well - you know them already :-)
