Plus part one of drobe.co.uk's Iyonix review

Like a comedy double act or some sports game that lots of people watch, this article comes in two halves.

Iyonix in European online press: It's been brought to our attention that the Castle Iyonx has been mentioned in an online German magazine. Announced as the first XScale processor to drive a desktop computer system, The Iyonix is described a reward for loyal users who've stuck with RISC OS.

wuerthne 6/12/02 9:53AM	A couple of notes: First of all, let me point out how significant this is. heise.de is not just "an online German magazine". It is the most important one, one that is read by almost all IT professionals. For most people, it is the main daily source of information about what is going on in the IT world. In terms of importance, it is a bit like Slashdot for the English-speaking community, but rather different because it is published by the most important German IT magazine publisher. So, this is really a great thing! Overall, the article strikes a very positive note, which is almost unusual for an article about RISC OS machines from this very technically minded magazine. Unfortunately, the translation lacks in quite a few points, turning some of what was said into the opposite: "Acorn user magazine" was not mentioned, the article mentioned the "Acorn User newsletter" from ANS (something I did not know existed). The article does not say that the 2.5-fold increase is "comparable to Moore's law", but just the opposite: It said that onsidering Moore's law which predicts a doubling of processing power every two years, this 2.5 increase is not a giant leap. The final sentence is a bit more benevolent in the German version than in the translation. It says: "RISC OS enthusiasts, who have been patiently waiting for 8 years, will be prepared to dip more deeply into their pockets".
quatermass 6/12/02 12:08PM	I posted an announcement of the Iyonix pc to Slashdot but it's been unfortunately ignored. Slashdot has this annoying habit of going through 'what is fashionable this week' and if your news isn't in line with what is current then it gets ignored. Oh well I tried.....

clerfayt 6/12/02 10:35PM	Maybe I should have said something about heise.de in my e-mail to drobe, but Martin did a good job now in mentioning the significance of this. It's really rare to pick up some RISC OS news in German print or online media. Especially Heise's print magazine "c't" often has had very negative comments about RISC OS computers (I remember that infamous RiscPC review ), so this generally positive article clearly is a revolution...
