Freeware update-tastic

New SSH, 32bit StrongED and more. You know you love these software release roundups

Update: 32bit StrongED
www.stronged.iconbar.com

Writing to the StrongED mailing list just today, developer Fred Graute announced the existance of a 32bit version of this editor's favourite text and source editor.

"I'm happy to announce that StrongED now runs on Iyonix", states Fred. "As soon as I've done some more testing I'll put up a version for people to test."

Of course, users of 26 bit systems will still need to test this new version in case the conversion to 32bit safe breaks any part of the program. More details as we learn of them.

SSH Beta 4
http://www.prowl.org/aardvark/32bit/

Alex Macfarlane Smith, winner of our drobe.co.uk C/C++ tools competition has been busy with SSH and released a beta 4 version of the client. This work is a precursor to full SSH support in Nettle. A major new feature in this release is support for inline commands (eg ssh user@host "ls -l" ) - great! It also attempts to make use of Theo Markettos' CryptRandom module for greater security.

Remane 1.3 (sic)
http://users.argonet.co.uk/users/tudor/english/sharewar.htm

Only last week did we report on Jochen Leug's new Remane program at version 1.1 and now it's up to version 1.3. There's bugfixes, improved user interface, and interactive help now. Jochen's asking for feedback.

FilerHRun 1.21, WebMan 0.06
http://mysite.freeserve.com/verelanthe/musus/

Philip Ludlam has responded to Kell Gatherer's request for 32bit versions of some his utilities . Check out Philip's page for updates.

Inform 6.21
(download link)

Jon Ripley has compiled Inform 6.21, a text adventure game player, for 32bit users. Don't forget you'll need the 32bit SharedCLibrary module and stuff if you're on a 26 bit system.

Why's the program called FilerHRun if it has nothing to do with Filer and doesn't follow the semantics of Filer_Run ?

Surely it's more like StartDesktopTask or WimpTask than Filer_Run ?

I liked !Edit when I was 10 and we'd just got our A5000. Back in the day all apps had their own !Help applications and we also had *info to "coo" at every month. Good times.

Mmm... *INFOlicious.

Seriously, I miss *INFO - there was always some little piece of code that made you wonder "how?" -- Simon Wilson, Boulder, Colorado

Glad to see Ian J. hasn't made any more stupid comments or abused his editor power since his previous embarrassment. Or written any articles it appears.
