New Convey game, web galleries, disc repairing and more
Look, software. Go fetch!

Heroic marble battles conveyor belt of death
www.cloudsprinter.com/software/

Another cute little game from Neil White, Convey is an isometric bag of fun where you have to guide a ball along a moving conveyor belt packed with traps, collect little pink balls, avoid pits and jump over ramps. Like Neil's previous creations, Convey was produced in a few days and while looking smartly polished for a freeware diversion, Neil's game has a hint of humorous mocking scorn with cunningly useful hints like "Try to avoid the holes" and "Looks like game over to me" plus several levels of difficulty. Neil invites everyone to design their own levels (details provided) and pass him a copy so he can add them to the game distribution.

"This game is quite addictive and involves guiding your 'blob' along a moving conveyer belt avoiding hazards and collecting red 'blobs'", writes Neil in his announcement. "Shocking storyline I know, but don't let that put you off!"

Also, for anyone interested in how it's done or thinking of creating a game, Neil's written up for drobe.co.uk a guide to how Convey was produced.

Checking up on those modules
users.argonet.co.uk/users/lenny/riscos/soft/misc.html

Midiways has updated its Verma application which "displays detailed information about Modules that are located in memory or on disc." Version 0.22 reports more information about modules including CLI commands they may provide. A useful app for investigating what OS level components are running on your machine and what each module does.

Generating web galleries
users.argonet.co.uk/users/daves/software/

WebGen is back as WebGen 2, Dave Stratford's RiscWorld recommended app that automatically generates HTML galleries of pictures for your website. Directories of GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG and Sprite images can be processed and WebGen 2 generated HTML will validate as 4.01 transitional. This release of Web Gen 2 is a beta version and here's the key changes list.

Discknight improves
www.armclub.org.uk/products/discknight/

There's us thinking riscos.org was permanently out to lunch but oh no, they've decided to shockingly report the release of DiscKnight 1.42, hack Andy Harmsworth hyping it up as "an essential support tool".

DiscKnight is ARM Club's worthy commercial disc map checker and repairer which supports RISC OS 4's E+ harddisc format and RISC OS 5. The latest version, available to existing users via Smartgroups, includes the ability to repair fragmented root directories among other things. The freeware disc checker version (available from the DiscKnight website) has also been updated and, as riscos.org also suggest, worth downloading to give your harddiscs a once over.
