Cerilica Nucleus jettisoned By Chris Williams. Published: 28th Apr 2003, 13:59:12 | Permalink | Printablel@@k! eBAY!1! RARE!! Drobe reader Richard Cassidy has tipped us off this afternoon that Cerilica's unique Nucleus case is being sold off on online auction site, ebay.co.uk. The Nucleus was to be Cerilica's specialist RISC OS powered graphics design workstation which would use the Millipede Graphics Imago motherboard. It appears ex-Cerilica director Nick van der Walle is selling off the one-off case.
"Alas, the [Imago] motherboard still is not completed and has never been made commercially available", explains Nick on the case's auction site. "Due to this, the Nucleus project had to cease which is why this prototype is unique in the world.
"When I left Cerilica earlier this year, I bought the Nucleus case and colour-matched unused MultiMedia Keyboard from Cerilica. I did not require the motherboard or hard disc so this was removed. My intention was to transplant the innards of my RiscPC to the Nucleus but as my job is veering me further away from the RISC OS platform, I decided the best thing to do would be sell the case and keyboard as-is."
 Nucleus Case
Well we can't accuse Nick of smuggling the case out of the Cerilica office on his way out and it's a nice enough guesture, we feel, to give back the case (which at one point was an innovative and iconic representation of Cerilica's future) to the RISC OS public, or the highest bidder. The current bid at time of writing is a hundred quid.
This extreme confirmation that there will be no Imago powered systems in the future leaves RISC OS with two hardware solutions - The Castle XScale Iyonix and Microdigital's long overdue StrongARM Omega computer.
