DTP Principles guide book available

By Chris Williams. Published: 27th Aug 2003, 15:53:25.

Choice of a bonus CD-ROM

APDL/ProAction logoEarlier this month, we learnt that RiscWorld readers got a free DTP guide book in the post. As of today, APDL/ProAction's book DTP Principles is available to all and you can pick a CD-ROM to go with it.

The guide was produced by Foundation editor Richard Hallas and includes topics from document structure to page design to font selection to the Golden Ratio rule. ProAction have billed their guide book as "a platform and software-independent guide to understanding some of the most important fundamentals of word processing and desktop publishing".

This isn't the first time ProAction have played publisher, having reprinted First steps in programming RISC OS computers.

When ordering a copy of their new DTP guide book, you can chose one of the following CDs..
  • Ovation 1 CD (32bit safe). Ovation is the little brother of DTP package OvationPro.
  • 75,000 clipart CD. A CD stuffed with WMF files that can apparently be converted into drawfile format. A drawfile ready version of the CD may be sold separately later, we're told.
  • A CD of 5,000 photos in high quality JPEG format
  • ..or what's in this box!

APDL/ProAction are selling copies of DTP Principles, which'll include one of the above CDs, for just six quid including postage and packaging.

I've read my copy of DTP Principles. It's very well written, and told me lots of things I didn't know - so it's probably useful in its own right, even without the CD! -- Andrew Harmsworth, Cambridge. www.gcse.com owner and author

A RISC OS-using artist has described exhibiting his digitally-created work in a public gallery as a "rewarding experience". Richard Ashbery, who used ArtWorks and Photodesk to create his images, showed off patterns and colourful illustrations to punters, who told him his work made a change from the oils and watercolour masterpieces usually exhibited.
