Midlands show in doubt By Chris Williams. Published: 24th Sep 2003, 23:47:29 | Permalink | PrintableSouth East show expands While no one was hurt as a result of the recent fire at the National Motorcycle Museum, the blaze delt a blow to bikers and RISC OS users. The museum, located in Coventry near Birmingham, was for this coming November to be the venue for the ARM Club's annual Midlands RISC OS show. The organisers are right now "actively investigating alternative venues", according to the ARM Club website.
The club's site also states that, "the club is currently working with the Motorcycle Museum to see what options are available to ensure that this event can go ahead."
"It looks like the show may be cancelled for this year", show organiser Ralph Sillett admitted to drobe.co.uk earlier today. "I am looking for alternative venues around the Midlands but we may not be able to source one within the time".
Ralph has promised us more information in time for the weekend. The 2002 show played host to the first sale of the Castle Iyonix, bringing us firmly into the XScale architecture era. To coincide with the 2003 event, it would have been pertinent to see how far we've moved on in a year. As always, we'll keep you posted on Midlands show developments.
South east show gets bigger
There's good news however from the South East RISC OS show team. Last year's event in Guildford was quite crowded and cramped and despite being very inspiring, the number of visitors clambering over each other to get to popular stands and the show theatre was concerning.
To address this issue, the organisers have increased the size of the show hall by re-allocating space used by the show theatre as space for exhibitor stands and moving the theatre to its own separate studio. The theatre will have two screens, each around 1.5 metres wide, with monitors dotted around the show hall to relay the theatre presentations to the main hall. The costs in redesigning the show layout have been covered by "increased stand sales", according to an email sent to show exhibitors this week.
