Inaugural Qercus issue delayed By Chris Williams. Published: 4th Feb 2004, 23:34:28 | Permalink | PrintableThink positive spin, think positive spin Media watch Publisher Finnybank have admitted that the first issue of Qercus will be late. When Qercus was born from the Acorn User and Acorn Publisher merger last December, everyone was boldly told to expect the inaugural issue to be delivered by mid-January.
Speaking to sympathising AcornEvolution, Qercus editor John Cartmell explained: "The first issue has been delayed. We had to re-align it to the Tau Press issues and then had to re-write because of items that were then out of date. Rather than a big jump to get us back in line we will be publishing at 3-4 week regular intervals until the magazine is at the start of the calendar month."
Details of forthcoming issues can be found here. It appears Qercus are planning to run reviews of PCs with VirtualRiscPC, UniPrint, Web Wonder, a Wimp programming series and more besides. Finnybank will also be cutting back on advertising in the magazine to make way for more copy.
Also, if you take out a subscription before Valentine's Day and claim you're an AcornEvolution reader, you can get last year's Acorn Publisher issues for an extra 15 quid.

ARM Cortex-A8 port of RISC OS 5: first screenshot An ambitious attempt to port the RISC OS Open sources to the new-fangled ARM Cortex-A8 architecture (as used in various gadgets) has produced its first promising screenshot - although there is still plenty of work to be done. However RISCOS Ltd is still grumbling about licences, claiming that a non-Iyonix ROM image from ROOL sources can't be released. Meanwhile, RISC OS Open has joined an ARM community programme to boost its profile among other developers.
