On Could RISC OS teach Linux a trick or two?:

The article comes over as criticising the wholesale cloning of Windows (big people, big lawyers) and suggesting that innovation required a take up of clones of RISC OS (and others). "Avoid being sued" may be good advice but lacks something in the ethics department if it's followed by "copy stuff from those who cannot afford to sue". For true innovation I'd like to see something new - not simply copied off anyone but Microsoft - but the days of innovation appear to be long dead..

On DataPower 3 unveiled for Guildford release:

DataPower 3 One of the three important releases of the Show - to stop Chris getting all excited I'm discounting references to all paper magazines ;-).

If scripting now works as announced that makes life *much* easier.

leo: Paul is obviously considering the success of the VA on Windows when he talks about his ideal solution being on a basic Linux foundation - and there is a lot of sense in that. My very strong preference is for RISC OS on ARM - though a solution that included Linux somewhere along the line might (at some point in the future) solve a number of problems. Developing an OS for all hardware developers is critical though.

On South East 2007 show preview:

ROL have provided a means to a future that gives space to partners (at present known or unknown). I don't know who might take up those options but they are the only ones available for our area of interest. It was necessary for ROL to be inclusive (old hardware & virtual) and a pity Castle/Iyonix haven't made it easy for their product to be included too. I'd be surprised if the comment from Paul wasn't taken out of context though.

On Review: A9home v. Koolu:

guestx: The views expressed in Qercus are those of the reviewers. I've never told a reviewer to deal with advertisers' products differently from anything else. If all a reviewer could say is "this is crap" then I wouldn't give it that much space. If a reviewer found lots wrong then I might ask them to offer a "what needs to be done before I'd buy it" type of review - and give the publisher the chance to say whether or not they are working on such improvements. The best is where a reviewer contacts the author/maintainer, suggests improvements, and by the time the review is ready some of those improvements are dropping through in updated versions of the application. I want reviews to facilitate development - not destroy any chance of improvement.
