On First screenshot: Beagleboard runs RISC OS 5 desktop:

My copy of the PRMs says it's highly problematic to multi-task during printing. PRM 3-561

Multitasking is incompatible with the queueing mechanism used by the Printers application. If you call Wimp_Poll whilst printing, the printers application will assume that you have finished; if there is another job in the queue it will continue with that, which will obviously cause an immediate error. Future versions of RISC OS may address this problem.

It is difficult to arrange your printing such that you call Wimp_Poll sufficiently often to confer a useful degree of multitasking on the rest of the system, since you cannot predict for all classes of printer the size and complexity of rectangles that you will be asked to print. To do so properly, you need to use a timer.

You must select the previous print job before polling the Wimp, and reselect your own job on return.

In practice these problems are likely to outweigh any advantages conferred by multitasking. If you have any doubts as to whether or not you should multitask, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T [my caps]

So where in the PRMs did you read the recommendation to poll?

On Is there a way out of RISC OS version number hell?:

It's a shame you didn't bother to try and understand it Mr Ripley.

"unless you want them to code for a common module call API in which case nobody needs to develop anything since this was the case prior to the OS fork!!!!!!!!!!!"

Even if you do this the VERSION NUMBER of the modules can be different. The required API may be provided by V0.08 of the ROOL module but V1.14 of the ROL one.

Currently it's near impossible to try and get around this. This is what ROOL are trying to fix.

"AMPlayer source code released Blue prints for popular MP3 player available online | Posted: 31st Jul 2007, 23:20:20" That's why I noticed it being used in this item as well. I can't help wondering if Drobe are going to use this term with *every* open source release.

On Vigay: I was told to remove my Firefox 2 tutorial:

As an attempt at some balance lets take a look at part of the message; [link]

It's ironic that you made no attempt to coordinate efforts with me _before_ you posted this. In the meantime, someone _has_ made a rather more accurate version on my Wiki, and so we once again have a situation because of your actions, where we have duplicated information on riscos.info and riscos.org. Meanwhile, I've been attributed with things I didn't say on drobe, in an attempt to stir the pot with this situation.

I believe part of Peter's problem was that Paul's guide contains errors, didn't discuss it with him before hand and couldn't be updated by anyone else. BTW the more accurate guide is at [link] but I guess that isn't news.

In reply to Druck; I've never heard of MakeAIF or can find it. If it's MakeApp2 you're referring to, then it's output can already be put through WrapAIF, which will add the required header.

I'm also producing a re-write called MakeApp3 which will add the header directly & will have a few improvements such as supporting longer command lines and BASIC64

"Also, why isn't the CDFS filesystem stuff an image filesystem, is accessing a data CD significantly different from accessing a SCSI or ATAPI disc, or did CDFS predate image filesystems? "
