On News in brief:

I used to have an Omega, when it didn't freeze randomly the other "press the reset button" trigger was a Filecore disk error. Although it would re-boot without fuss, and I could go and access the same file without causing it to immediately give the same error. I couldn't track down what was causing it, as it never seemed to occur with exactly the same file, folder or even disc. I sold my Omega and bought an Iyonix. :-)

On Jan Vibe: The interview:

A real blast from the past, thank you drobe and Jan. I learned a lot from Jan Vibe all those years ago.

On Could NetSurf 2.0 support JavaScript?:

I like the speed and simplicity of Netsurf, and I don't miss Java-script support.

That might be due to me having a WinXP machine and a Linux machine, both of which happily run Firefox.

Even so, I'm of the opinion that site which rely on JS aren't worth using anyway. Sites that use JS to enhance the site are OK by me, as long as there's a way to use them without JS too.

On ARM absorbs graphics processor firm:

Speaking as someone who owns both a 17 inch LCD and a 17 inch CRT monitor, I think it's vital that Castle support (and continue to develop) dual-head support, including DVI support. DVI support is vital, because most Geforce FX 5200 and 5500 cards have one D-SUB output alongside a DVI output.

On RISC OS found on Pocket PC PDA:

I have a iPAQ HX4700 (Intel PXA270); if (and when) Jan releases his port I'd certainly give it a try on my palmtop. It's the same CPU, or possibly one of the same "family".

I think the simplest way to copy RISC OS files to and from; is to use SD or CF cards via a card reader.

On Dispute over 'intrusive' VRPC copy protection:

Whilst I have no problem with the copy protection on VRPC, if you find it stops working because you've fitted a new network adapter use a utility to change the MAC address of your new adapter to that of the old adapter:

On PC card software released under GPL:

By way of a reply to Bernie's question about a false positive virus alert;

I've just downoaded the file, on my WinXP box with Norton Anti-virus and unpacked the archive with 7-zip. No virus warnings at all.

Hope this helps.

On Firefox beta 3 released:

Quick follow-up: Firefox beta 3 doesn't work on VRPC (RISC OS 4.02). Not on mine anyway.

On Firefox beta 3 released:

The first two betas did not work on my Omega (yes, I know...) but the third beta worked and fetched the "default" page but www.drobe.co.uk crashed Firefox...

I still think it's a great acheivement to get this far so quickly anyway. BTW I'm on RISC OS 4.03 here, and I haven't yet tried Firefox on VRPC.

On MicroDigital sought by bailiffs:

If MD have gone under it is indeed a sad day, as it means one fewer company in the RISC OS market.

If there's some other problem, then we can only wait. I admit to being slightly miffed about my Omega having USB sockets which will never do anytihng other than provide +5V. Maybe MD will be back on their feet soon.

Alex (always optimistic).

On Cocognut freely available finally:

Without commenting on the MGM/Grokster ruling, I'm happily bittorrent-ing the latest Knoppix Live DVD. I hope my ISP don't report me as a bittorrent user to any passing music company rep... :-)
