On Bargain hunting for RISC OS upgrades:

I got a set of Adjust ROMs for £35 off of ebay a few days ago (which still strikes me as a bargain). Uniqueway (or Paul Middleton, if it's him) have been listing adjust ROMs for progressively lower and lower prices for the past few weeks. It looked to me like they were doing a bit of market research to find out what price would be needed to clear the ROMs. The listing that I bought mine in had 10 sets for sale and only 6 went, which leads me to think that there might be further price reductions to come. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if the official price for RO 4.39 dropped some time soon.

Looking forward to upgrading my Risc PC from RISC OS 3.71 now :)

I like the idea of calling the next gen RISC OS machine 'Archimedes'. Even after four years of looking at it Iyonix still looks like a dumb name to me. I'd call the next machines the Archimedes 1000 series - we had Archimedes 300s, 400s and 500s in the 80s (followed by A3000s, 4000s and 5000s) then Risc PC 600s, 700s and StrongARMs (would surely have been 800s if Acorn had used the ARM8 instead of the StrongARM) and now the A9. Archimedes 1000 seems like a logical name for the next step. I'd like to see STD, Castle, RO Ltd and maybe Simtec all contribute to the design, I'd like it to use Open RO5 with Select features, have the fastest ARM processor available (preferrably on a card so it can be upgraded) and I'd like it as soon as humanly possible.

I wonder if the Archimedes name is still owned by somebody?

On Wakefield 2007 show report:

Did anyone else think about putting an A9Home in one of the cases in the link below after seeing the A9wai1?

It would make a neat marketing gimmick.

On Acorn brand name in PC laptop launch:

In reply to Mike:

The new Acorn wouldn't need to be involved with developing, selling, or providing support for an A9-based laptop. Advantage 6 and ROL could do all of that. The new Acorn could simply treat the extra case sales as a small extra source of revenue.

Anyway, surely the Acorn brand is indelibly associated with RISC OS? Wouldn't associating themselves with a RO based laptop strengthen the new Acorn's claim to the brand?

On Acorn brand name in PC laptop launch:

Would there be much work involved in adapting the A9's internals for use in a laptop? If not then why don't Advantage 6 approach the new Acorn to see if they can do a deal to get hold of some cases? An Acorn A9 laptop would, I think, have more sales potential than the A9home and the Iyonix combined.
