On Five tips for ROL over the next five years:

Your enthusiasm is fantastic, Paul. And thanks for another interesting article.

You're right, RISCOS Ltd is a tiny company. But it could make a massive contribution to the platform. It should open source its branch of RISC OS so that the community (which is also small) can make the best use of the development it has done over years (which I value highly) in combination with RISC OS Open.

The subscription scheme could continue, allowing enthusiasts to fund important and democratically decided development. The code produced would be open source also.

While RISCOS Ltd remains closed, access to the small amount of money in my bank account are closed also. I'm no longer interested in funding cul-de-sac development.

On RISCOS Ltd relaunches riscos.com with new design:

The changes do indicate they're listening, and I'm glad of that. It is, however, sad that they've chosen such divisive language in claiming exclusivity. At least, that's how it reads. It might not be intended.

Hoping that they'll listen again, before ROL embark on restructuring the rest of the site, let it be known that this user would much prefer a functional and plain site which conforms to standards, like the RISC OS Open web site, rather than the course which seems to have been taken with this new site. I think designing for specific browsers is a mistake, and in this case just makes the platform look inward looking, even if the excellent Netsurf browser is now available on other platforms. Also, the text in graphics can't be read by text readers for blind users.

I hope Paul Middleton takes my comments as constructive rather than simply trying to undermine any efforts made. But given the small amount of money ROL has, I'd hope that resources would be more effectively targetted.

On What should be NetSurf's priority?:

sa110: excellent idea on naming. But to be clear, I'm not sure it would be about placating Dave Holden. More about recognising the "huge importance of Dave Holden to [NetSurf] users", as jmb wisely recognises.

My only personal concern would be that Dave receives all the support he needs as this progress occurs. He must be feeling a bit faint-hearted.

On What should be NetSurf's priority?:

The three key priorities for me are Dave Holden, improving the display of websites, and Javascript. Unfortunately I could only vote for one of these.
