On Moving tributes to Paul Vigay flood in:

Very very sad indeed. Such a great man - and a hole never to be filled. As ever, my thoughts to his closest friends and family.

On Animation software collection falls into R-Comp's hands:

We used to use lots of Iota software 10 years' ago when we taught IT with Acorns! Those were the days. It's really good to see that this software has a new home and may get some further developments. Good luck to RComp!

On PhotoFiler handed out in free download:

This is an excellent program, far quicker than Select's thumbnailing and more comprehensive. Good news for everyone!

On Open source Organizer pondered:

This is a great program and, at some point in the past, I was looking forward to Pocketbook synchronisation! Alas that didn't quite make it into a realeased product. It's still a useful program (it always reminds me not to forget birthdays) and it would be brilliant to see its facilities extended a little. Good luck to anyone with the time (and skills) to take this on!

On The houses that RISC OS built:

Great article - I do love the fact that most of Drobe's articles are as good as printed magazines. And what a great use for RISC OS machines!

On Playing with prime numbers on RISC OS:

What a super article, thanks for putting this together. Reminds me of a text file a friend found at VI College - of PI to several thousands of decimal places. He printed it out on fan-fold paper...

It would be nice to have the program that can generate primes on RISC OS on Martin's website - did you try compiling the BASIC program to make it faster?

On The best of the Microdigital Mico manual:

Good grief - you couldn't try to produce so many errors with such deep and meaningful wit.

What ever happened to RiscStation, by the way?

On Dual core 1.2GHz Xscale touted by Intel:

Gosh, this would be nice! My problem is that my nearly decade old (although seriously upgraded) SA RPC is more than enough for my needs. A 1GHz Iyonix would change my mind there...

On ArcEm ported to Amiga OS 4:

All this porting stuff is very noble, but is it really any use to anyone? The efforts required seem to me to be rather large and the rewards little more than a bit of kudos. If every other person who spent a week coding a pet project OS port spent that week instead writing something fresh and useful (that could even be sold!) for RISC OS, I think we'd all appreciate it rather more.

Maybe I'm just getting old and cynical!

On Finnybank Ltd dissolved:

I really do hope John's still able to publish some magazines at some point soon - I really used to love reading AP. The quality of its articles were first rate (unlike AU towards the end).

On MW Software reveals PDF work:

Sounds like a fabulous update - I used to use TW alot and found its export of Word files very useful to communicate to PC-users. However, it wasn't perfect and so the ability to export PDF (perfectly?) would be so much more useful. Bravo!

On RiscCAD version 10 ready for SE show:

It's great to see such developments and excellent to have competition in the marketplace. Does anyone know how RiscCAD compares with ProCAD+ ? Perhaps someone could draw up a list of things each do and don't do?

On The Intel XScale conundrum:

Horses for courses, methinks. I'm still enjoying using my 202.6 MHz StrongARM and Photodesk compared to my PC laptop with 10x the processor speed, 8x the memory and still it faffs about with image editing.

On Argonet shut down delayed:

Argonet was great! I remember the Acorn World stand (97 was it?) when they gave away so much red wine... those were the days! Their software was also fabulous and worked right out of the tin. Good luck to Paul.

On Castle terminates RISCOS Ltd. licence:

Interesting. I didn't renew my SELECT subsription from somtime late last year, as I wasn't entirely convinced it offered me good value for money. I presume this means Select subscribers are left with a lemon for their current subscription? Very sad.

On Comments on the Microdigital Alpha:

I agree with those people who say that for schools, a fast Windows machine with RISC OS emulation is the best solution. The alternatives?

1. RISC OS hardware with slow PC card 2. old RISC OS hardware with little chance of upgrades, and shiny new (separate) PCs...

Fast PC with RISC OS emulated quickly is a decent solution.

On Select 3 online release:

HELP!

I ran the installer, and it TOO crashed out with a "too many windows" open error (even though I had chosen auto-quit everything).

How do I do a sysmerge when I can't find the system to merge?!?!
