On News in brief:

I could not decide whether this was on- or off-topic. Having had some inconsistent results with ps2pdf, and not knowing when Riscript would arise anew, I found that my already-installed UniPrint could send RO output to Adobe Distiller in Acrobat on a PC. Not elegant perhaps, but accurate readable .pdf files result. Perhaps AW2 can be enticed to produce pdf files in this way also, for the cost of Acrobat.

On Heatstroke warning for older Acorn kit:

I was alerted to this problem of RPCs in Australian summers, by Mal McLenaghan, who advised some simple case mods which appear to keep the drives quite cool. If anyone is interested I can email the mod description rather than take up room here. I assume that Mal would not mind.

On The RISC OS dispute: 12 months on:

A debate on whether anything should be said? What happened to Freedom of Speech? Or is that something found only in the US? Surely Castle and ROL would respect that freedom. Let us now hear what they have to say.

Picture exclusive - This grainy photograph shows a port of RISC OS 5, sourced from the RISC OS Open project, running on a Beagleboard - a device powered by a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor with a built-in graphics chip. The port, developed by Jeffrey Lee with help from Uwe Kall and ROOL staff, is seen as a major breakthrough for the shared-source project as it proves the OS can be ported to new hardware without the need for a large team of engineers.
