If you think that a C 'case' statement handling a WIMP reason is encoded as a string of comparisons, you're way off. Why exactly do you think this is a "bottleneck" anyway? "if Wimp_Init required a table of addresses to jump to for individual events." Which is close enough to what it does do. List the messages it wants to receive in the init call and mask reasons in the poll call. A RISC OS-using artist has described exhibiting his digitally-created work in a public gallery as a "rewarding experience". Richard Ashbery, who used ArtWorks and Photodesk to create his images, showed off patterns and colourful illustrations to punters, who told him his work made a change from the oils and watercolour masterpieces usually exhibited.
