On Programming tools set for price slash:

Bother - make that £20 more! That'll teach me to read more carefully :-)

On Programming tools set for price slash:

So, CJE's discounted price is £15 more than ROOL's new price, but does include printed manuals, which ROOL doesn't.

On Dual-core XScale due soon:

Tamias: It's clocked up to twice as fast as the IOP321, and has up to 2 cores. That all adds to the heat bill.

On Iyonix banned by new EU green law:

Indeed. It's not like the RoHS regs are news to anyone in the industry - they're been coming for a while now. And it's not a surprise, either, that they're affecting RISC OS machines. Most old computers wouldn't pass the new regs. That's kind of the point...

On VirtualRiscPC sneaked onto Mac OS X:

cmj: If the GUI that comes with a linux distro (which would be Gnome or KDE) doesn't do what the user needs, they can't do what they need in Windows either! The days are long gone when Linux desktops were less capable than Windows; they're now fully as user-friendly but retain their vast superiority in configurability. But, as has been said, I think we all understand that the variables involved in supporting VA on Linux would be many, and that this reduces the chances that we'll ever see VA on Linux.

Let's just hope that we see VA on MacOS soon :)

  • RISC OS 5.14 softloaded on an Iyonix: first screenshot
Adrian Lees has been beavering away on a softload tool released as part of the RISC OS Open Shared Source scheme to get it to boot the project's RISC OS 5.14 ROM image from his Iyonix hardware - allowing him (and soon anyone else) to try out and test the ROM builds before committing them to Flash ROM. See this thread for details.
